An assessment on effect of process parameters on pull force during pultrusion

Abstract This research investigates the process behaviour by prediction of pull force required to drag raw materials through heated die at different reinforcing material configuration during pultrusion. Pultrusion is a continuous manufacturing that widely used in manufacture for composite profiles. A specially designed device, friction virtue pulling on ‘resin impregnated’ fibres with both liquid resin and partially cured resin, was employed measure against temperature conversion. allowed experimentally simulate tracing short long length process. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) determining polymer The results shows downstream part has no significant effect before specific conversion level achieved higher leads viscous/liquid zone. difference noted much more when low (e.g. room temperature) considerably drops due rising temperature. Further, new mathematical model proposed predicts rise compaction pressure increasing fibre volume fraction velocity which an opposite characteristic tapping angle thickness considerations. Similarly, many parameters including shrinkage, viscous dry were modelled simulated ortho polyester resins as function dynamic pulling. study direct application configuring pultrusion customisation configured material, components respective designing profile be manufactured.
